Balanced
The Balanced product is aimed at conservative and prudent investors looking for long-term growth potential while maintaining a steady stream of income. The Balanced Portfolio invests in Canadian and American equities, income trust units, debt securities and in ADRs of foreign companies. In prior years, the Portfolio was constructed in order to be eligible for RRSPs and other tax deferred investment vehicles by respecting the statutory limit for foreign content.
It is a balanced product with fixed income and equities asset classes having minimum and maximum of 25% and 75% of the portfolio.
The investment performance objective of the Balanced Portfolio is to overperform the return from a balanced benchmark — composed of the Scotia Capital T-91, Scotia Capital Universe, S&P/TSX Composite, S&P 500 and MSCI EAFE indices — while upholding a low risk profile. A secondary objective is to outperform the median return of balanced products, as well as the average of balanced mutual funds.
